What is nutritional therapy

Do you really know what is nutritional therapy? It is all about how your food choices can impact your general health and wellbeing! Give your body the nutrient it deserves.

La nutrithérapie utilise des aliments bruts et variés comme sur cette image: fruits et légumes frais, sel, noix et graines, viande

Nutritional therapy is an integrative medicine with a deep knowledge of nutrients, humain biochemistry with a bit of holistic approach in that all body systems are interconnected to ensure good health, or "ease".

In clinical practice, I am like a detective, observing and questioning everything to understand why you are not feeling good.

Can nutritional therapy help you?

Yes, almost everyone can benefit from nutritional therapy, no matter age, sex or specific condition.

Let's dive deep in with some examples of nutritional therapy help :

Pre-diabetes et diabetes :

Nutritional therapy helps you get to the root causes of your imbalances. Where does this diabetes condition comes from? How can we help our cells get more sensitized to insulin? What micro-nutrients do our cells need in order to do so? Are inflammation and chronic stress disturbing even more our cells and body homeostasis? What about our microbiota? There's lots to investigate when it comes to blood sugar dysregulation and diabetes.

Premenstrual syndrome :

Premenstrual syndrome is often linked to hormones imbalances, especially when they drop suddenly at the end of the cycle. Hormonal balance can be impacted by many factors: your genetics (we speak of genetic polymorphism when certain genes are under-functioning) can make you more susceptible to certain nutrient deficiencies, your home (humidity, air pollution, presence mold and mycotoxins), oxidative stress, chronic stress, food quality, your sensitivity to endocrine disruptors or even your microbiota. Together, we look for the factors impacting you and work to restore balance with the right nutrients, dietary supplements and lifestyle habits.

Oral contraceptive pill withdrawal:

OCP increases risks of folate, magnesium, vitamines A, B6, B2, B1, B12, C and zinc deficiencies! It also stops the HPO axis connection (connexion between brain and ovaries that regulates hormones), so our androgens hormones production is artificially stopped. After a long stop like this, it can take a while to come back to normal cycling. Adequate nutrition and supplements can support your hormones production and HPO axis to restore normal cycles.

Acne :

To help with acne, nutritional therapy's goal is to find the root causes, why is acne here? Is it because of too much oxidative stress creating inflammation? Is it zinc or vitamin A deficiency ? Is is because of too many androgens, especially DHT, due to sur-activation of mTORC1 protein or gut dysbiosis? What's blocking your body's abilities to heal? To explore all these potential causes I use functional tests such as GI-MAP (if I suspect digestive issues) or DUTCH test (if I suspect hormonal imbalances).

Digestive issues :

Nutritional therapy guides you to balance your plate and reach for the right nutrients. It also helps you absorb them correctly! Some deficiencies can impact your gastric, bile and digestive enzymes secretion, therefore preventing you to absorb the nutrients.

Weight management :

Weight management is a lot more complex than just caloric restriction or low fat diet! Stress, over-activated adrenals, insulin resistance, hormonal imbalances, low thyroid function are just some of the factors that can impact your weight! I look at the whole picture and work on balancing every factor to restore health, and when health is back, the weight goes right!

Stress & fatigue :

A little bit of stress is healthy, almost "beneficial" for the body, but extreme or chronic stress is a lot more harmful! It can be due to stressful family life, work-life, finance or it can be due to nutrient deficiencies, to issues coming directly from within such as allergies, thyroid imbalance, detox impairment, to exposure to pesticides, molds, radiations... Chronic stress is also linked to the prevalence of asthma, autoimmune infections, cancers, cardio-vascular issues, chronic fatigue syndrome, recurrent infections, diabetes, IBS and digestive troubles, ulcers, headaches, hypertension, menstrual cycle imbalances and intense PMS. Nutritional therapy helps lowering stress linked to nutrient deficiencies or à health imbalances, which then gives you more energy to handle better the stress linked to your personal life.

Fatigue in itself is the feeling of physical and mental exhaustion that is not relieved by rest. Our body is asking for more energy than what it is able to produce in order to execute all usual its functions In these case, we have to look out for mitochondrial health. Mitochondria are the micro-organisms within our cells in charge of energy production. What do they need, what nutrients are they missing to produce ATP (the energy) our body need?

Nutritional therapy can also be helpful for a wide range of body systems and issues, let me know if comments what you'd like to know!
